For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. – Jeremiah 29:11
I received a “pray for me” text the other day from one of the girls who used to call this house her home. She has been doing great and had hit a bump in the road. I was so thankful to be able to chat with her for a bit, reassure her we are praying for her and give her some counsel. Later that day, I was blessed to go wedding dress shopping with one of the girls who currently lives here. She lost her mom at a young age so I knew it would be important as her wedding day approaches to make sure those mom roles are being filled by women who love her. (Ya’ll – she is going to be one GORGEOUS bride!) I am so thankful her move out day will be her wedding day to a young man we have gotten to know, work with and see grow in the Lord as well. And to round out the day, I got into an argument with a young lady about expectations and why rules are what they are.
I was flying high through the morning and into the evening. I was praising the Lord I could be involved in the girls’ lives and give them wisdom, love them, and watch them spread their wings! However, in the evening, I was ready to quit. Not because this young lady had pushed me too far, but because I was unable to convince her I love her and want her to succeed. You see, she saw the rules as something holding her back from what she wanted instead of protecting her from things that would throw her off track. I could not figure out any other way to say we love you, stop fighting us!
I was reminded how often I respond the same way to the Lord and took a moment to pray – both for her heart and my attitude. I am so thankful over the next few days we sat down and talked out some of the rules she was having a problem with and give her some of the “whys” she was looking for. She has been working hard on the Personal Studies for New Christians curriculum from Teen Challenge and I am SO proud of her accomplishments!
Please continue to pray. Pray these girls would KNOW they are loved not only by us, but more importantly by the Lord of Heaven and Earth! Pray they would know the Lord has great plans for them, to prosper them and not to harm them and His ways are GOOD!
Have a blessed day,
