For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. Ephesians 2:10
A little over a year ago, I was at the hospital in labor with Timothy, our sixth child. My mom and Aaron are always there with me and while they chatted, I listened in on part of their conversation. Aaron, very matter of factly, told my mother that I was, in fact, NOT his top priority. He quickly added, neither are the kids. My mother, who was watching her child struggle through labor with her grandchild, both of whom have been declared not the top priority, did not take this very well. And of course, I laughed.
Aaron went on to explain I was his second priority because God had to be first in his life. And then after me were the kids. Everything else, work, extended family, church, fell into line after that. She stopped glaring at him after a few minutes and I suggested he might need to work on the delivery of that particular speech.
Heading into the New Year is always a great time to reevaluate priorities. God gave us Himself, each other, our children, our church, this ministry and more. There are SO many good things that need to get done – but if I remember that I am working with God and not for God, it goes so much smoother. I’m thankful God has adjusted my view time and time again and He doesn’t need me – but He does want me to be faithful in the things He has given me. Who knows what this year will bring, but please pray we keep our priorities straight and we don’t fall into the trap of “doing” for God at the expense of being with Him.
We are grateful for your love and prayers this year and look forward to what the next year will bring! Our God is good and continues to be faithful to this ministry and our family. We are blessed beyond measure.
