Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. -- 2 Corinthians 1:3-4
What is the end goal of having a young women come and live with our family? Well, we would like to see her leave with a deeper relationship with the Lord, life skills to carry her into the future, and a sense of family and belonging that may not have been possible before. These are not small tasks and since each young lady that lives here comes from a different background, it is certainly not a one size fits all endeavor.
As I think through the names of the women we have gotten to share our lives with, I think of all the things they have taught me. I think about the ways we handled situations – what we did well, what we could have done better. I think about their stories and what makes them tick. I think about the prayers and tears poured out for them and where they are now in their journeys.
God is faithful in meeting us where we are with these young ladies. Sometimes we see incredible growth. Sometimes we see little baby steps. Either way, we know He is intimately involved in the process because we call on Him to move in their lives, and ours.
What is my point in all this? Our God, the One who saved so many through His death on the cross, cares deeply about each of these women on an individual level. He is unwilling that they should not know love, family, direction, and purpose and we strive to be the instruments that provide those things. We rely on our life experiences, experiences with other young women, and His specific guidance to reach these ladies and impact their lives. Our God who brought us through so many trials in our own lives gives us the ability to comfort these women in their circumstances. He is good.
