The Impact of Friends
Do not be misled: "Bad company corrupts good character."
1 Corinthians 15:33
Harvest House is intended to be a safe place, a refuge in the storm, for young women who need something in their life to change. Maybe they just need a little bit of help as they weather this season of life. Maybe their past holds neglect, abuse, or addiction – lifestyles that are crippling and holding them back. Whatever it may be, they have agreed at some point in this process things should not stay as they are.
These women are often willing to take drastic steps to make improvements. We have seen young women fly across the country to move into Harvest House. While a change in living situation may seem drastic, more important are the day-to-day decisions that still influence decision making and attitude.
One of the biggest obstacles we face when working with these young ladies is their friends. These young people surround themselves with influences who tell them what they want to hear. They often give excuses for behavior or facilitate deception. When we suggest a friend might be holding them back, we are often met with hostility and resistance.
We continue to surround these young women with people who will pour truth into them and we pray those voices are the loudest and most influential in their lives. It is a hard fought battle, replacing lies with truth but one worth engaging in.
Friends, if there is a young person in your circle of influence who is struggling right now, please be a voice of truth in their lives. And if you know of a young woman who is ready to make a change in her life but just doesn’t know where to begin, have her get in touch with us. We’d be happy to see if Harvest House might be the right fit for her!
Have a blessed day,
