“being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” Philippians 1:6
I recently sent the following text message to one of the girls living at Harvest House:
“Had something happen and I am angry and hurt. Then I told myself, ‘It is ok to be angry and hurt…now what do I need to do with it.’ Same exact thing I tell you. Lest you think I’m not human, I tell myself the same truths I tell you. :)”
Why do I share this with you? Because it is so important for her to see I struggle with the same things she does. She needs to know I do NOT, in fact, have it all together. I am not a perfect parent, wife, friend, or Christian. I sent her this so she can see I am trying to do the next right thing – another phrase I use a lot around here.
My life is a work in progress, just like her life and every other young woman who has lived in this house. We are to press on toward who God wants us to be, encouraging each other along the way. And, since people are watching, it is often easier to own our humanity and our struggles rather than try to present ourselves as having it all together.
This ministry is an interesting one. Sometimes people seem to expect life change the instant someone moves into Harvest House. An address change doesn’t make an attitude change though. It takes time to desire and develop new habits and thought processes.
Would you please pray for all the “works in progress” who live in this house? We could all sure use it!
